About Self-Insurance-Guide.com
I am self-employed, and I needed health insurance. Investigating the matter, I settled on a plan with a high deductible—which allowed me to contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA). And it’s truly a beautiful and wonderful system! It provides amazing tax benefits, helps pay for future medical expenses. It’s so wonderful, I’m surprised that more people don’t take advantage of it.
Over the years, I’ve had several friends and family come to me asking about what I do to fill my insurance needs.
And...it’s complicated. Well, not really, but above all, I prefer to self-insure myself. Oh, yes, I have health insurance—but I’m self-insuring out-of-pocket expenses and my future health insurance costs.
This has many advantages but, as it turns out, there is an appalling lack of information about self-insurance. Insurance companies don’t tell you about it—they want you to pay them!
So I created this website to explain the mysteries of self-insurance.
